HDPE Pipe Price from China in 2026: Cost per Meter, FOB Ranges & Landed Cost

2026 HDPE pipe price guide from China: PE100 resin cost, ex-works ranges by DN/SDR, FOB vs CIF, and landed-cost examples for import buyers.

An HDPE pipe price from China is built from four layers: PE100 resin (60–70% of the ex-works price), conversion and overhead, the factory margin, then everything between the factory gate and your yard — freight, duty, inspection, and financing. As of mid-2026, ex-works prices for standard PE100 water pipe run roughly $1,150–1,450 per tonne, and because pipe is priced by weight, the per-metre cost depends entirely on how much material the diameter and wall thickness contain.

The single most useful thing to understand about pipe pricing: you are buying resin by the tonne, and the pipe geometry decides how many metres that tonne becomes.

Why HDPE pipe is priced by weight, not by metre

Factories quote in one of two ways — per tonne or per metre — but both trace back to weight. A DN110 SDR17 pipe weighs about 2.1 kg/m; a DN110 SDR11 pipe (thicker wall, higher pressure) weighs about 3.2 kg/m. Same diameter, same length, but the SDR11 pipe costs roughly 50% more because it contains 50% more resin.

This is why “what’s your price for DN110 pipe?” is an unanswerable question until you specify SDR and grade. Two factories quoting DN110 at wildly different per-metre prices may simply be quoting different wall thicknesses. Always compare on a $/tonne basis first, then convert to $/metre using the weight for your exact spec. If the terms below are unfamiliar, HDPE pipe standards explained covers DN, SDR, PE100 vs PE80, and pressure classes.

The four cost layers

1. Resin (60–70% of ex-works). PE100 resin is a commodity that tracks crude oil and ethylene feedstock. As of mid-2026, domestic Chinese PE100 pipe-grade resin runs roughly $1,000–1,200/tonne. This is the floor under every quote — no factory can sell finished pipe below its resin cost for long, so a quote far under prevailing resin price signals either recycled/regrind content, a lower grade substituted for PE100, or excess filler.

2. Conversion and overhead (~15–20%). Extrusion, energy, labour, cooling, cutting, coiling or bundling, QC testing, and factory overhead. Larger diameters and thicker walls cost slightly more per tonne to convert because of slower line speeds.

3. Factory margin (~8–15%). Thinner on high-volume commodity DN sizes from Hebei, wider on large-diameter or specialty grades where fewer factories compete.

4. Landed-cost additions. Freight, duty, inspection, insurance, and the financing cost of your deposit. Covered in detail below — this layer routinely adds 10–25% on top of ex-works for Southeast Asian buyers and more for Europe.

Indicative ex-works prices by size (2026)

Prices below are an indicative mid-2026 range for ex-works PE100, ISO 4427, black with blue stripe, at order volumes around one to two 40’HC containers. They are an orientation for budgeting, not a quote — resin moves monthly and factory pricing varies by region and volume.

SizeSDRApprox. weightEx-works $/mEx-works $/tonne
DN63SDR17 (PN10)0.68 kg/m$0.90–1.10$1,300–1,500
DN110SDR17 (PN10)2.1 kg/m$2.70–3.30$1,250–1,450
DN110SDR11 (PN16)3.2 kg/m$4.00–4.90$1,200–1,400
DN225SDR17 (PN10)8.6 kg/m$10.50–13.00$1,200–1,400
DN400SDR17 (PN10)27 kg/m$33–41$1,180–1,380
DN630SDR17 (PN10)67 kg/m$80–100$1,150–1,350

Notice the $/tonne narrows as diameter grows — conversion cost per tonne falls on large pipe, but resin still dominates. If a small-DN quote is far below $1,300/tonne, be sceptical: little pipe is where filler and regrind hide most easily.

What moves the price up or down

Grade. PE80 is cheaper than PE100 but rated for lower pressure — only specify it for low-pressure irrigation where cost drives the decision. PE100-RC (crack-resistant, for trenchless and no-sand-bed installation) carries a 10–20% premium over standard PE100.

Colour and stripe. Solid blue costs slightly more than black-with-stripe. Yellow gas pipe (ISO 4437) is a different resin masterbatch and priced separately.

Order volume. Below one full container you pay a small-order premium and may struggle to find a factory willing to run a dedicated batch. A single 40’HC of DN110 is a comfortable minimum for competitive pricing.

Carbon black content. Genuine 2–2.5% carbon black for UV stability is a real cost. Under-dosed pipe is cheaper and fails early outdoors — a hidden way a low quote gets low.

Region. Hebei is the cheapest cluster and the most variable in quality; Jiangsu documentation and export experience carry a modest premium. The buyer’s guide to China’s HDPE pipe manufacturers breaks down the regions and factory tiers.

Building a landed cost

Ex-works is only the start. Here is a worked example for one 40’HC of DN110 SDR17 landing in Southeast Asia:

Line itemAmount
Pipe, ~4,000m @ $3.00/m ex-works$12,000
Inland haulage to port + export clearance$250–450
Ocean freight (China → SE Asia, 40’HC)$800–1,800
Marine insurance (~0.3% of CIF)$40–60
Third-party pre-shipment inspection$200–400
Import duty (0% with Form E, else 3–5%)$0–600
Destination port + customs clearance$200–500
Approx. landed cost$13,500–15,800

That’s roughly 12–30% on top of ex-works, and the two biggest swing factors are freight and duty. A Form E Certificate of Origin taking duty from 5% to 0% is often worth more than the inspection costs — see shipping HDPE pipes from China for container fit, HS codes, and the duty table by destination, and the container loading calculator to check metres per container for your DN.

How to compare quotes without getting fooled

  1. Normalise to $/tonne. Convert every per-metre quote to $/tonne using the standard weight for that DN and SDR. Now the quotes are comparable.
  2. Check the quote against resin. If finished-pipe $/tonne is at or below prevailing PE100 resin price, something is being substituted — regrind, lower grade, or filler.
  3. Confirm the spec matches. A cheaper quote for “DN110” may be a thinner SDR, a lower grade, or under-dosed carbon black. Get grade, SDR, standard, and carbon black content in writing.
  4. Ask what’s included. Ex-works, FOB, and CIF are very different numbers. A “cheaper” FOB quote can be dearer landed than a CIF quote once port charges are added.

An unusually low price is not a bargain — it’s a specification you haven’t been told about yet. Verify what you’re actually buying with how to verify a Chinese HDPE pipe manufacturer, and protect the payment against a failed batch using the structures in China pipe export payment terms.

Common pricing mistakes

Buying on $/metre alone. Without SDR and grade fixed, per-metre price is meaningless.

Ignoring the resin floor. A quote below resin cost is a warning, not a win.

Forgetting the landed-cost tail. Ex-works looks cheap until freight, duty, and inspection are added. Budget the full landed number.

Skipping inspection to save $300. On a $12,000 order, a $300 inspection that catches an under-spec batch is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy. See AQL inspection for pipe imports for how sampling works.

Assuming price ranking holds across sizes. The cheapest factory on DN110 is not necessarily cheapest on DN400 — large-diameter capability is a different market with fewer players.

The ranges above are for budgeting. For a real number, the four things a factory needs are simple: DN, SDR (or PN), quantity, and destination port. Send us those and HausPipes will come back with indicative factory pricing on a normalised $/tonne and $/metre basis — plus a landed-cost estimate for your route, so you’re comparing the number that actually hits your yard.
